I have a favorite word: Adventure. Maybe it is because I equate adventure with travel, but I love this word: It contains so much promise and excitement. Technically, "adventure" is a noun, but most of the time I like to use it as a verb: Adventuring. In two weeks, I will start my year of adventuring in Bremen, Germany. When I found out that I was selected to be a participant in the 28th year of Congress-Bundestag for Young Professionals, my first reaction was "I have a new adventure." Now it's only two weeks away and I can hardly believe the time is so close.
I also have a favorite quote: The well-used quote by St. Augustine that says, "The world is a book, and those who do not travel read only one page." Before I went to Ireland in fall of 2009, my childhood pastor shared this quote with me and it instantly stuck. How perfect, a saying that captures the transformative wonder of a good book and the reason I believe in travel. I have been extremely fortunate to travel before--I've already open the book. When I went to Ireland I turned the first real page and now I'm turning the second page...and the third...and the fourth...For the next year I'll be adventuring and turning pages.
In the last two years I've learned that I have an appetite for adventure; this will be the theme of this blog. I hope to not only share my experiences, but focus on adventures in daily life; in culture; in food. In short, I'll share my adventures experiencing the things I love. Like a good book, the Book of Adventuring has ups and downs, but I think I'm ready. So here goes because really, where would a good book be without a little adventure?
